b) What factors determine who participates and benefits from a market-based micronutrient powder intervention in Bangladesh, who does not and why?
Bangladesh is currently using micronutrient powders in half of the country in order to improve the status of essential vitamins and minerals such as iron, iodine, zinc and vitamin A in children. This study will conduct an analysis, using secondary data from a GAIN-supported study, of the factors that determine who participates in and benefits from a market-based micronutrient powder intervention in Bangladesh, and who does not benefit and why. The analysis will also look into the factors that influence the uptake of micronutrient powders. A paper has been drafted. The study, due to be completed in 2013, is being led by Rahul Rawat with Purnima Menon and Kuntal Saha of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
