January 9, 2017 - Leave a Comment

Tam, a 2014 participant in the Transform Nutrition Short Course, tells us what he learned during that week, how he has been able to put it into practice and what he has gained from being part of the Transform Nutrition Leaders Network since then.

My name is Sutayut Osornprasop but I am known to my family and friends as “Tam”. I live in Bangkok, Thailand, where I was born and where I have spent most of my life. After studying Political Sciences at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, I worked for ASEAN in their Higher Education cooperation arm and then moved to Cambridge, England to complete my PhD in Politics and International Relations. Basanta Kar, Transform Nutrition Champion, receives Odisha award

December 22, 2016 - Leave a Comment

We were delighted that one of our 2016 Transform Nutrition Champions, Basanta Kumar Kar was recently awarded an Odisha Living Legend Award  for excellence in public policy. This is in recognition of his tireless  work on nutrition in South Asia.

Basanta said of his award “It is very satisfying to receive this award in Odisha where I am rooted. This is the state where I experienced multiple deprivations and developed the courage and conviction to overcome these challenges. It is also where I formed my passion for helping people to make changes in their lives.  I am confident that Odisha, endowed with rich human and natural resources, can move out of the clutches of a undernutrition and emerge as a talent state; a global nutrition pioneer”.

June 14, 2016 - Leave a Comment

Transforming leadership

In March all 10 Transform Nutrition 2016 Champions were offered media and advocacy training by Save the Children. We were delighted that five were able to make it to London to take part. They joined around 10 key Save the Children international personnel and took part in an intensive 3-day training programme, during which they heard  from expert media trainers and were given a chance to share their own examples of good practice. Why we need Champions of Change for nutrition

May 24, 2016 - 3 Comments

By Mr. Basanta Kumar Kar Transform Nutrition Champion, South Asia

  • We need more political will and government departments focused on nutrition.
  • Our governments should act and make a pledge at Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit at Rio in August’16.
  • We the ambassadors have to act today to influence the thinking and actions of policy makers and political leaders.

These were the main messages from a Nutrition for Growth (N4G) spokespeople training in London that I attended as a Transform Nutrition Champion from South Asia in March this year. [Read more…]

Transforming leadership

Blog by Christine Muyama and Manaan Mumma

As Transform Nutrition champions 2016, we got an opportunity to participate in the Nutrition for Growth spokespeople training held in London from 14th- 16th March 2016. The training was conducted with the aim of identifying, collecting, and utilising compelling nutrition evidence and narratives to support our Nutrition advocacy work and to maximise the opportunity of the Nutrition for Growth summit as to secure political and financial nutrition commitments from our advocacy targets. It also focused on nutrition advocacy with a special emphasis on how to galvanize public support and influence decision makers around nutrition priorities. [Read more…]
